Why on earth does Disney feel the need to give their wonderful, classic songs so many makeovers??? They come nowhere close to the original and, if the case, end credits versions!!!! ARGH!

Recently I listened/watched on youtube to Disney songs (Little Mermaid, Pocahontas, etc.) performed in new pop versions by some of the Mouse's brightest starlets. I listened to a good number of songs -- some with quite a few new renditions. About 2% of the songs were nice. The other 98% was horrible. The worst ones, IMHO, was Miley Cyus' "Part of Your World" (totally ruined it) and "Poor Unfortunate Souls" by the Jonas Brothers.

Please, please Disney, leave your songs alone!

I've never really liked Cyrus's voice.

I also hate her father for plaguing the world with the achey breaky heart song.

Yes, it was really weird hearing Ursula's song performed by guys. As soon as they started singing it went downhill for me. *shakes head*

I almost punched my computer when I listened to the Jonas brother's massacre of "Poor Unfortunate Souls." At least no one has murdered "God Help the Outcasts," one of my favourite Disney songs yet. *clings to shred of hope*

You just don't give a girl's song over to a guy! Especially one like that. Their music video of "Poor Unfortunate Souls" was uninspiring.

Totally agree with you about "God Help the Outcasts" being untouched. Thank goodness! Both versions are so great. Trying to "up" it would...it would lose its magic.

Oh, I agree! "Poor Unfortunate Souls" is totally a woman's song. I mean, there are certain songs that can be sung by either gender (like "Out There" from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, "Your Mother and Mine" from Peter Pan off the top of my head) but... not "Poor Unfortunate Souls." Also, the Jonas Brothers cannot sing and making it crap punk/pop/rock? No, thank you. >:(

If ANYONE dares touch "God Help the Outcasts," I cannot be held responsible for my actions. That is my favourite Disney song on earth and I listen to it on a regular basis, I cry every time I watch that scene, Esmeralda is just freaking amazing and I will attack anyone who even TRIES to sing it.

Speaking of godawful Disney covers, have you heard Hilary and Haylie Duff sing "The Siamese Cat Song" from Lady and the Tramp? It takes the buscuit for terrible covers. I would find a link, but I don't want to break your brain.

"The Siamese Cat Song" by the Duffs... Wow. I really can't find words for this version. O_o Weird... It doesn't make me like the original version more.

OW. Just those words alone. However, now I think I must find it, suffer through it, and then share the pain with others.

I hadn't heard the Alana version before. She sure sounds young on it. It was pretty painful. But, in my opinion, Miley is much, much worse. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ophzked9ZY) She doesn't have the right voice for this type of song, and completely ruins it for me. Please share your thoughts!

Miley is worse. Definitely does not have the right voice.

Still, while I love The Little Mermaid (and, so far, HATE all the covers of its songs), I can do one better, or worse, as the case may be. Fall Out Boy covered "What's This?" from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Miley ranks right under them, though, for worst cover of a Disney song (that I've heard).

Oh, goodness! I remember hearing that version of "What's This?" when my brother borrowed The Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack. I thought it was so horrible (my brother found it sort of cool). They ruined a song I'm quite attached to. I agree they are a little worse than Miley; they could almost tie in my opinion. *bangs head on desk*

Argh, even the mere mention of the wee Cyrus' name makes me twitchy. I knew about her because my young girl cousins love her show, and I tried watching an episode but couldn't stand the artificial-ness of her whole pop princess angle.

When I heard that she covered Part of Your World I didn't put two and two together, because I only knew the girl as "Hannah Montana", so I downloaded her song and promptly started leaking from the ears.

Why is she such a phenomenon? Is there no justice? I weep.

I had never watched Hannah Montana before, so I had no idea what to expect when I heard Miley covered "Part of Your World." I got through the entire song only twice. The whole sound and everything is just...wrong.

I have no idea why she is so popular. Why tweens and younger kids love her so much is a mystery. I don't understand what makes her so appealing.If I was that age again I highly doubt I'd be a fan.
