Sparrow Spying
The warm afternoon sun spilled through the window, bathing the room with its bright, welcoming light. Elizabeth Swann had the small library to herself. She sat on the silk- cushioned couch, a book open on her lap and several more next to her. Her father was out, and she need not worry about being caught and arousing his displeasure today. Absently, the girl twirled a stray lock of her light brown hair around her finger. Engrossed in her book, she turned the page.
An illustration covered the whole page. A pair of eyes the color of charcoal stared fixedly up at her. The man’s face was pale and fair. Hair of the richest black that shone brushed his shoulders. The ends of his thin mustache curled upwards. His smile was both dashing and arrogant, his teeth white. A hat with gold trimming and feathers he wore at a slight angle, revealing a little the red bandana tied around his head. A few buttons on his white shirt were undone, revealing the bird tattooed on his chest. His right foot was on a large rock, his hand resting on his knee. And his left hand was on the gold hilt of his sword.
Elizabeth studied the picture for a long time, examining every feature, every detail of the painting. A small smile tugged on the girl’s mouth, and her gaze turned wistful. He was very handsome. For a moment she became lost in romantic daydreams. Aye, he was very handsome.
Eventually she glanced down at the nameplate at the bottom of the portrait. Captain Jack Sparrow. Her smile widened. The famous Captain Jack Sparrow, who had vanished from under the eyes of seven agents of the East India Company and had sacked Nassau Port without even firing a shot.
The girl gazed out the window towards the harbor. She sighed. How she would like to meet Captain Sparrow and hear about what other adventures he had had sailing the seven seas. Had he ever encountered a sea dragon? Discovered a new island with buried treasure? Had he a lady love who sailed with him or watched for his return from her home near the sea? Or did he have no love except for the great sea?
Elizabeth smiled down at the picture of the famous captain and resumed reading.

Date: 2006-12-23 05:24 pm (UTC)I've always loved the idea that Elizabeth was infatuated with Jack as a young girl.
Yes, I totally agree. And she was into pirates in general at least.
