Jane austen challenge -- Days 3-6
Dec. 1st, 2012 09:54 pmSorry, fell behind!
3. Favorite Austen book.
That would have to be a tie. (Hmm, starting to see a pattern...)
Mansfield Park (love the story and characters) and Sense and Sensibility (my introduction to Jane Austen).
4. Favorite quote from the books.
"Fanny must have a horse" -- Mansfield Park
This is one of my big love-Edmund! moments. And I personally find this whole argument in the 1983 miniseries both touching and hilarious as Aunt Norris protests against such a notion and Edmund states over and over "Fanny must have a horse." *huge grin*
5. Favorite moment in the books.
Henry Tilney coming after Catherine at the end of Northanger Abbey. Elinor discovering Edward is not married in Sense and Sensibility.
6. Favorite movie adaptation.
Impossible to pick just one or two! In no particular order:
1983 MP -- It is stagey compared to the adaptations that came after it, but the miniseries is very faithful to the book, has a wonderful cast (Edmund, Fanny, Aunt Norris, Mr. Rushworth among the standouts), and I adore all the Edmund/Fanny moments.
1995 P&P -- It is a classic.
1940 P&P -- Yes, it is a loose adaptation of the book, yet it is the P&P film I get the least annoyed by. The whole cast is good. The screwball comedy is a hoot. And Bingley and Jane are just so sweet!
1995 S&S -- This was the first adaptation of any of Jane Austen's works that I ever saw, and it remains one of my favorites. Everything -- cast, music, script, direction, etc. -- just comes together so wonderfully. Patrick Doyle's score is enchanting. And Alan Rickman IS Colonial Brandon. Period.
