Short rant regarding (suspense) books
Sep. 19th, 2006 09:14 pmGrrr. For some reason the last couple of books I've read have not been as enjoyable as expected. I read my first Carol Higgins Clark book, Decked. I expected it to be pretty suspenseful since she is the daughter of the famous Mary Higgins Clark. Ha. I kept waiting for the suspense and...I missed it or something. *sigh* It was disappointing. And I read two of her mother's books, I'll Be Seeing You and Daddy's Little Girl, yesterday and today with similar results. The first one was a good story with interesting characters, though it did not deliver many thrills. The second one...I considered several times not to finish it because the heroine really got on my nerves. None of the other characters were very interesting. And the climax...I won't even go into it.
Three less than thrilling reads, very disappointing. I've started another suspense book, Hide Yourself Away, by Mary Jane Clark (no relation to the above Clarks, I believe); I doubt I will finish it. *shakes head* It seems I cannot find good suspense books all of a sudden. They sound interesting from the summaries when I'm at the library, but when I get home and read them... Maybe I need of change of genre; I could give Gregory Maguire's Wicked a try perhaps.
